Abstract :
In spite of its long history a certain mystery still surrounds the concept of cogeneration. Alternative names, such as combined heat and power, do not help and the recent emergence of combined cycle gas turbines (CCGT) also tends to confuse. This paper briefly reviews the cogeneration market in the UK. It then focuses on industrial cogeneration schemes with reference to the schemes developed by National Power Cogen and a case study of one of them. It concludes by considering the future role for cogeneration in a competitive generation market
