Abstract
The virtual cathode oscillator (vircator) is a widely investigated device for the generation of very high-power microwaves (HPM) with pulse lengths (<200ns) limited by diode closure. Because of its structural simplicity and frequency tuneablity, the vircator has become the most readily available HPM sources.
