Abstract :
Until recent years, the batteries used in power stations for uninterruptible power supplies have predominately been of the flooded lead-acid Plante´ design. However, the last decade has seen a new contender enter the marketplace, the valve regulated lead-acid (VRLA) cell, also known as the sealed lead-acid or gas recombination cell. They are used for tasks as diverse as fire detection equipment and safety UPS systems, ranging in size from 24 V 6.5 Ah to 110 V 1200 Ah or 350 V 800 Ah. This paper deals with the design aspects of the VRLA cell and also the hidden dangers
