Abstract :
Two case studies have been conducted to investigate the power quality of wind turbines connected to weak rural networks. The first was at a single wind turbine connected to the 11 kV network in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. The second study was at a wind farm of 24 wind turbines, connected to the 33 kV distribution network at Cemmaes in mid-Wales. The impact of the wind turbines on the network and the effect of network disturbances on wind turbine operation were evaluated in terms of steady state voltage levels, dynamic voltage variations, flicker and voltage unbalance
