Abstract :
The theory of transient energy and stability is reviewed. Basic concepts including the swing equation, stable and unstable equilibrium points, and the equal area criterion are discussed. A transient energy method and phase plane portraits are investigated. A simple interactive computer program based upon this transient energy method is described
