Abstract
In this paper a miniaturized microstrip patch antenna is designed on a RT/Duroid 5880 substrate. The efficiency of the antenna was improved using MSRR and WS metamaterial structures and its complimentary cells on the ground plane. Consequently the antenna efficiency and bandwidth is 92% and 0.5% at resonant frequency of 2.03GHz, respectively. The directivity of the antenna is 2.7dBi. It compacted by 50% in comparison with a regular patch antenna resonating at the same frequency.
