  • Abstract
This paper presents an IP-based high-speed multimedia wireless LAN prototype in the millimeter-wave band developed at the Communications Research Laboratory (CRL) for a broadband radio access integrated network (BRAIN). It is a centrally controlled wireless LAN using two frequencies in the 60-GHz band for FDD, and it can transmit IP-based multimedia traffic at a speed of up to 64 Mbps in each direction. It can also support multicasting/broadcasting by improving a wireless access protocol called reservation-based slotted idle signal multiple access (RS-ISMA). Wireless multicasting of MPEG2 video is one typical application. This paper covers the prototype system´s design, configuration, and implementation
