Abstract :
In association with the CNRS lab in Amiens, France, Saft has studied various parameters of Ni-H2 cells which cause the second plateau phenomenon frequently seen after cycling and storage. The main parameters were the effects of the hydrogen pressure which appears during the electrochemical reactions in the cell. The main results showed that the second plateau effect is linked certainly to the insulation of the active material from the collectors leading to almost a diode system. This insulation is directly related to the effects of hydrogen on the hydroxide position at the interface between the bulk and the collector
