  • Abstract
    For the requirement of the high-density disc, the coding efficiency and the performance of correcting errors become more and more important. We present a new data format and a new error control scheme of NVD (Next-generation Versatile Disc), which is one of the key technologies of optical-storage system. The new data format of NVD which significantly reduces data redundancy increases the encoding efficiency up to about 4% more than that of DVD. Meanwhile, using 2 error correction codes decoders and a more powerful interleaving process prior to DVD, the new error control scheme of NVD has largely improves the burst error correction capability, though NVD has less error correction codes.
