Abstract
Traffic engineering large backbone networks has become an important issue today. Primarily, a traffic engineering (TE) solution should offer ways of moving traffic around congested points along paths other than the shortest path computed by the traditional routing algorithm, thereby improving end-application performance. In this paper, we examine the performance of IETF´s MPLS (multiprotocol label switching) based solution for engineering IP networks. We also analyze the performance of RSVP-TE (resource reservation protocol-TE), the signaling mechanism used in the TE solution, especially with scalability as the focus
