Abstract
A fluid model is used to simulate a plasma discharge in two dimensions. The fundamental equations are discretized using the finite volume method. The discrete adjoint method is used to compute sensitivity derivatives, which can be used to increase or decrease a given cost function. The sensitivity derivatives are verified by comparing with those computed using complex perturbations. Results of the simulation and optimization are given, as well as applications and ideas for further research.
