Abstract :
Next generation Internet backbone node technologies are proposed that offer sophisticated QoS support including real time voice, video streaming, and VPN (virtual private network). The backbone network consists of small size IP + ATM nodes (type-S) and backbone core nodes (type-X). Type-S nodes support both ATM bearer and IP QoS services. In addition, the traffic control set between input line card buffer and output line card buffer is based on the ABR VS/VD mechanism. The backbone core nodes utilize IP-based high performance routers. They host the sophisticated IP QoS control mechanism called the advanced DiffServ technique. This newly proposed technique offers real time voice and connection based buffering capability. These two types of nodes will allow the next generation high-quality IP network to be realized
