Abstract :
This paper presents the results of Monte Carlo simulations of the performance of the GSM full-rate voice channel down-link from track-side base-stations to high-speed trains. Diversity schemes and radio channel models which are thought to be representative of the real conditions likely to be encountered in a high-speed railway environment have been implemented in the simulations. This paper describes these radio channel models and diversity schemes, and presents a subset of the results of the simulations in graphical form. Train speeds up to the 250 km/h specified for standard GSM and beyond to 500 km/h have been studied
