Abstract :
A rule based technique that optimizes pilot power settings of CDMA cellular systems is presented. The resulting optimized pilots are tested and compared to uniform pilot settings and those based on ad hoc approaches such as optimization by “hand” and optimization through drive tests in a major city-wide deployment of a CDMA cellular system. The rule based technique shows significant improvement in pilot pollution reduction with some improvement in forward link coverage and capacity allowing a substantial reduction in deployment efforts spent in optimizing pilot powers
