Abstract :
This paper addresses the practical implementation of real-time stability assessment and monitoring at Long Island Power Authority (LIPA). After a brief introduction of the power system under LIPA´s jurisdiction in the context of the Eastern US interconnection, the CIM compliant functionality added to the existing SCADA/EMS facilities is presented. On this background, the implementation of real-time stability assessment by loosely integrating an off-the-shelf third-party application with the existing CIM compliant SCADA/EMS is described. The most important aspects of the implementation are addressed, including the extensive benchmarking of the real-time stability program. The operational results obtained to date are illustrated with actual pictures taken directly from the application´s displays.
