  • Abstract
In this paper, a decentralized automatic generation control design based on an artificial immune system algorithm is proposed. Using the concept of immune cell-pathogen interactions the power system is assimilated to a human body which strives to fight and eliminate damages and anomalies. The immune based controller takes smart actions that (1) assure compliance with NERC´s control performance standards, CPS1 and CPS2, and (2) also reduces wear and tear of generating units´ equipment. A two-area power system is used to demonstrate the effectiveness of this novel approach.
