Abstract :
The photonic mixing properties of a Franz-Keldysh (FK) electroabsorption modulator monolithically integrated with a DFB laser has been characterised. By using a HEMT based impedance matching network between the detector diode and the 50 /spl Omega/ output line a conversion gain of 30 dB has been obtained for downconversion from 3 to 0.1 GHz.
