Abstract
The author suggests the preparation of piezoelectric PTFE-PUE-PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene and polyester-urethane elastomer) laminate without ferroelectric materials such as poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) and/or BaTiO3. The laminate of a three-layered structure (a-b-a) has some advantages in applications because its mechanical and electrical properties can be designed by changing the thickness of the outer films. PFTE-PUE-PTFE systems without ferroelectric materials can have interesting electret and piezoelectric properties. After about 160 days the induction charge density and the piezoelectric strain constant attain maximum and stable values of 10 μsC/m2 and 6 pC/N, respectively. The piezoelectricity of these systems may be due to heterogeneity and embedded charges at the interfaces between PTFE and PUE films
