Abstract :
The influence of a conductive particle fixed on the spacer surface on the impulse flashover value in compressed SF6 was investigated experimentally. Both smooth and corrugated spacer surfaces were studied. The results show that the metal particle could reduce the impulse flashover level by about 33%. It is also shown that the tangential component of the field strength is mainly responsible for the reduction of the flashover level. The results demonstrate that for impulse performance the corrugated spacer is much better than the smooth spacer
