Abstract
It is demonstrated that the thermal step method makes it possible to study the electric state of high-voltage cable. The origin and nature of the space charge can be determined by systematic studies with varying important parameters. The authors present results for two different XLPE (cross-linked polyethylene) virgin cables: the insulating thicknesses are 15 mm and 11 mm
