Abstract :
The authors present an overview of dielectric phenomena in the breakdown of non-pressure-assisted, impregnated-paper-insulated HVDC (high-voltage direct-current) cables. Dielectric breakdown stress results are presented and interpreted. The dielectric phenomena arising in a shrinkage void formed within a cable insulation made of impregnated paper layers are analyzed
