Abstract :
Modifications to previous implementations of the Wigner (1932) distribution (WD) are proposed so that the cross terms disappear and the existing residuals, some of negative value, can be treated as minor noise introduced by quantization. Rather than dealing with the auto-WD of a given signal, the cross-WD is used in order to bypass the undesirable properties of the bilinear transformation. Examples are presented to compare the results to those obtained using the short-time discrete Fourier transform (STDFT). In each instance, the proposed method performed at least as well as the STDFT.<>
