Abstract :
Power systems with overdutied electrical equipment present challenges not just with short circuits but also with regards to arc-flash hazard analysis. The potential arc-flash hazards may or may not propagate to downstream equipment. All points in the system must be evaluated to determine the effects. This same approach applies with series rated equipment. Series rated systems must also be analyzed in detail. For series rated equipment the device that ultimately provides the short circuit protection, also is the device that determines the arc-flash energy downstream.
