Abstract :
The effects of source and receiver motion on sound propagation in an oceanic waveguide are investigated. An explicit expression is given for the discrete Fourier transform of a harmonic signal emitted by a moving source in terms of the source and receiver velocities and the modes of the waveguide. This expression is shown to be very accurate and is used to investigate the variation of frequency observations as a function of range, dynamical, and signal-processing parameters. A realistic Northeast Pacific scenario is used in the numerical computations. The effect of source motion on propagation loss between the source and a receiver is examined.<>
