Abstract
In this paper, a detailed study on the tuning scheme of PI controllers utilizing the advanced numerical optimization is presented for loss minimization operation and optimal torque control in a vector controlled induction motor drive. The robust PI controller design problem is solved by the maximization of gain margin and phase margin. Thus, the presented controllers can stabilize the system for various operating conditions and ensure robust dynamic characteristics and good static performances, as well as high efficiency, under practical input constraints. Simulation and experiment results of a vector controlled induction motor drive system are presented and they reveal that the proposed control scheme is able to obtain robust and optimal torque and speed control.
