  • Abstract
Modern battlespace management doctrine emphasises information dominance strategies which assume that key command and control operators will be available at all times to run the command and control information systems. The performance of these operators is crucial to the outcome of military operations and thus a means of continuously, and automatically, monitoring their performance under operational conditions (including stress and fatigue states) is highly desirable. To this end, a lightweight, wearable physiological sensor platform was constructed from a modified Sharp Zaurus personal digital assistant (PDA) and will be used to record the electrocardiogram (EGG), electroencephalogram (EEG), galvanic skin response (GSR) and activity data (AD) of subjects carrying out a real or simulated command-and-control (C&C) task. The quality of the operator´s performance of the C&C task will be measured via performance batteries and response times. Modeling work will be carried our which relates the time on duty (TOD), ECG, EEG and GSR to the performance measures. The degree to which the operator state can be assessed will be explored, as will the extent to which ECG, EEG, GSR and AD data can be fused into a single operator state measure.
