  • Abstract
The authors establish a framework where determinants are identified that can influence the proficiency of the medical technology development process. The framework emphasizes the potential for highly integrated relationships between manufacturers, suppliers, users, and other organizations within the medical technology industry. Most importantly, the framework stresses the integration of medical technology users into all stages of the new product development (NPD) process. The authors also develop several propositions that can guide future research as well as suggest managerial implications for those working to meet the many challenges facing this rapidly changing industry
