Abstract
Previous works relating to the self-similarity of VBR video traffic have mainly focused on whether the queueing performances largely depend on long range dependence (LRD) or short range dependence (SRD) characteristics. In this paper, by correlation matching of input traffic, we show that there is a knee point of buffer size below which the buffer distribution is dominated by short-range correlations and above which by long-range correlations. It is also shown that the knee point is a decreasing function of utilization parameter. We conclude that if the queue operates under the conditions of low utilization and practical buffer size, the input traffic can be modeled by short-range dependent model which is generally Markovian although the input traffic hits long-range dependence
