Abstract :
To support system-wide synchronization accuracy and precision in the sub-microsecond range without using GPS technique, the Precise Time Protocol (PTP) standard IEEE-1588V2 is introduced. Various factors affect the clock synchronization precision, such as the location of timestamp point, frequency difference between Master and Slave, delay asymmetry and error accumulation. In this paper, we analyze these factors and propose an implementation of 1588v2 over UDP in Ethernet. This implement method efficiently reduces the effect of the above factors and guarantees the time and frequency synchronization precision supported by PTP.
