Abstract :
In urbanization process, historical districts are facing the destiny of being eliminated from cities for they can´t meet the demand for modern urban development. Therefore renovation of historical districts is an important subject in current urban construction. Renovation of historical districts is an effective approach for urban land recycling, and current renovation of historical districts has the problem that there is too much business atmosphere but the cultural value is not sufficiently developed. This paper specifically analyzes the successful case of landscape design of Wuhan Tiandi in Wuhan City, and suggests that landscape design in renovation of historical districts should focus on expression of regional culture and embodiment of integral environmental harmony. As a successful example of renovation of historical district in Wuhan, Wuhan Tiandi´s success is in strong cultural atmosphere, effective integration of architectural landscape and the environment, and the harmony and unification between the pattern of streets, space form of the district and the urban environment. The landscape design of Wuhan Tiandi respects the city´s history development and characteristics of the city, and provides a realistic basis for sustainable urban development, which is significant in guiding future landscape design of urban historical districts.
