Abstract :
In the presentation we will review results where a AlGaAs nonlinear directional coupler (NLDC) is used to implement both the multiplexing and de-multiplexing operations. Multiplexing has been implemented using orthogonal polarisations for the pump and signal pulse trains. The experiment demonstrated that two low power signals could be combined, without the normal 3 dB loss associated with devices such as Y-junctions. Demultiplexing has been implemented in two configurations; the first is similar to the multiplexing operation whereby different polarisations are used. The second uses different wavelengths and different pulse durations
