Abstract
Summary form only given. Presents single-channel optical time-division multiplexing (OTDM) and wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) of high-speed fiber systems. Recently dispersion compensating fiber (DCF) have been used to compensate the dispersion of conventional step-index fibers which make up most of the embedded fiber base in North America. The properties of these fibers will be described and their implementation in high-capacity systems will be discussed
