Abstract
The liberalisation (de-regulation) of the energy markets creates a new environment, with new requirements and demands on electric utilities and their business practices. STEWEAG (Austria) responded to these changes of the market by initiating an in-depth re-engineering process for the whole company in 1993. This re-engineering was mainly focused towards customer orientation, flat and flexible organisational structures, fast and correct answers to customer demands and increased transparency of processes. The customer account (billing) management system for industrial and commercial customers is to be regarded as part of this process of re-engineering.
