Abstract
The multi-functional power transfer controller (MPTC) is one of the thyristor based FACTS devices. Its simple structure as well as good flexibility makes it an interesting case for power system studies in under developed countries. In this paper, after introducing some configurations of this controller, the appropriate control law for damping of large signal electromechanical oscillations due to short circuit in transmission line is presented and then operation of various configurations of the controller are simulated when a balanced three phase short circuit occurs, this procedure leads to the suitable structure of the equipment for large signal oscillation damping.
