Photonic crystal nanobeam cavities for single-step metal nanoparticle integration

Abstract :
We present the simulation results, fabrication and measurements of a Si3N4 nanobeam cavity as a first step of obtaining enhanced single photon emission from quantum emitters in a photonic crystal cavity incorporating a metal nanoparticle. The cavity is designed to resonate at the operating wavelength of a CdSe quantum dot emitter. We use focused ion beam (FIB) milling as a one step process and have successfully achieved cavities with quality factors >;30,000. Future work will involve incorporating metal nanoparticles in to the cavities for which we have synthesized colloidal silver nanoparticles.
