Abstract :
Accurate and robust fault location algorithm for parallel lines compensated with one three-phase bank of series capacitors in each the line is presented. The algorithm is categorized as one-end fundamental frequency based technique which offsets the series compensation effect and the reactance effect resulting from the remote end in feed under resistive faults as well as takes the counter-measure for the mutual coupling between the lines. The applied phase coordinates approach allows to locate faults in untransposed lines too. Adaptation of the algorithm to locating faults in uncompensated parallel lines is provided. The sample cases of fault location for the fault data obtained from versatile ATP-EMTP simulation of both series-compensated and uncompensated parallel lines are included.
