Abstract :
Optimum displaying conditions were studied when the fatigue of the viewers who read characters was tested in a variety of contrast and the quality of natural pictures was evaluated in a variety of overall gamma on the same viewing conditions. As results, the optimum contrast of characters was found to be five, if the fatigue was taken into account. The optimum overall gamma was also found to be 1.1 at a contrast of 100, if the picture quality was evaluated. A display device has to have a function which changes displaying characteristics depending on character images and natural pictures
