  • Abstract
A new design method, variational optimization theory, is used to synthesize optical wavelength filter functions. In particular, spectrums with ultra-low sidelobes (<-60 dB), and `window-like´ functions having near unity transmission over the entire passband and -40 dB sidelobes, are investigated
