Abstract :
The criticality of media to laser optical storage is detailed, and a discussion of the basic forms of media follows. The various options in substrates, construction, formatting, encoding, and active-layer selection are discussed in the light of major tradeoffs involved in practical selection prerecorded and recordable media ar included, with the latter encompassing both write-once and erasable varieties.<>
