Abstract :
A worldwide analysis of the electrical sector deregulation process is presented, comparing the causes and consequences between the countries that have faced this movement. An economical and social classification is used, defining two distinct groups of countries and characterizing them by electrical, social, economical and political aspects in relation to the electricity service unbundling. The common challenges are discussed and the particular ones are highlighted. The applied electricity market models and their consequences are analyzed, composing the basic profile of each category.
