Abstract
The paper deals with the development of an interface between a SCADA/DMS system (supervisory control and data acquisition/distribution management system) and a GIS (geographical information system), at a French utility. First, it explains how the technical need of this utility evolved and why this interface became necessary: installation of a GIS to manage the whole electrical network equipments; and SCADA system evolution into a more complete DMS, due to the more and more automated network exploitation. Secondly, the development of this interface based on the EDIGe´O norm is presented in detail. Then, the conclusion shows the need of the normalization of the conceptual models describing the electrical network, in order to utilize the open architecture of DMS systems
