Abstract
A double notch microstrip patch antenna for dual frequency, wideband operation is presented. Direct microstrip coupling with a proper matching transformer is used. The design is based on the optimum position of the feed location and notch dimensions for the two resonant frequencies. The impedance bandwidth, the VSWR measured on a network analyser confirm the theoretically predicted values. The radiation patterns in the E/H planes show the applicability of such type of antennas for mobile communications. There is an improvement in the impedance bandwidth compared to the rectangular patch antenna bandwidth. Also the beamwidth is very high
