Abstract :
We demonstrated a novel VCSEL structure with a donut shaped active area. The devices exhibit interesting mode characteristics and demonstrate the ability to tailor the mode shape in vertical-cavity lasers. Among other applications the lasers could also be useful for two channel single fiber optical transmission systems
