A cooperative effort to technician recruiting

The nature of employment is changing dramatically as we approach the 21^st Century. To stay technically and globally competitive, companies must invest in human capital to a degree greater than ever before. To address these challenges, companies are asking colleges and universities to assist in creating innovative programs that can train or retrain today´s students to become the technician-level engineers of tomorrow. An example of how this approach is being applied can be found in a consortium of high technology companies called SEMATECH. In 1998, SEMATECH estimated that within the next five years 40,000 jobs in electronics would be needed in the United States. To help meet this requirement, SEMATECH launched a campaign to recruit students for jobs in the semiconductor industry. VTC collaborated with key members of the IBM team to develop a host of successful programs that could lead to full time employment for the most competitive VTC students
