Abstract :
The paper presents the wave propagation on a transmission line during fault before fault point and after fault point. Also a technique is presented for the measurement of the distance to a fault from one end of a transmission line using fault initiated travelling waves. The distance is measured by utilizing high frequency waves generated during a fault. Simulation results are used to illustrate the basic features of the performance of the new scheme on a simple 220 kV transmission line
