Abstract :
The design of 3DUSCT II was optimized with the aim of nearly isotropic and approx. spatially invariant 3D point spread function (PSF). To evaluate experimentally the 3DPSF, a thin wire was twisted into an irregular helix and imaged with the USCT system. The PSF was measured at 55 points along the wire as 2D profiles of the full width at half maximum (FWHM) in a plane perpendicular to the local direction of the thread. The mean FWHM over all profiles was 0.66 mm. The standard deviation (STD) of the FWHM profiles as measure of the isotropy had a mean of 0.18 mm. The variability of the mean FWHM over the points shows no systematic trend over the imaged space.
