Abstract :
All three technologies of data compression, high speed network communications and video servers may be applied conventionally within television to yield savings. Video servers will save considerable sums within a busy transmission environment by the elimination of head drum wear and tear and a reduction in the consumption of tape. Modest compression may be employed to significantly reduce the bandwidth requirements between broadcast centres thereby reducing lines costs. High speed network communications may be employed to deliver broadcast video pictures. If these technologies are applied in a cohesive and integrated manner we will find new applications and techniques which are enabled and delivered uniquely such as the delivery of commercial material by file transfer between broadcast centres
