Abstract :
The restructuring of the electricity industry in California, initiated on March 31, 1998, was expected to usher in competition among electricity service providers and reduce electricity rates for all customers. The salient features of the new structure and the experience with the process is discussed. The focus is on specific policy issues related to restructuring and the lessons to be learnt from the California experience by other regions and countries
