Abstract :
In this paper, a novel algorithm based on α-coefficients is presented for solving the VAr planning problem without numerous attempts. The proposed algorithm is simple, accurate and numerically reliable with reduced memory and execution time. The idea of α-coefficients is introduced for the first time and used effectively for estimating required shunt compensation to improve the voltage profile in the system. The proposed algorithm was applied to the IEEE-14 and 30-bus test systems and results are accurate and promising
