Abstract :
A description is given of the Hewlett Packard precision architecture, which provides the basis for low-overhead, high-throughput data management under the commercial MPE XL operating system. Large address spaces and large main memories obviate the need of sophisticated disk I/O subsystems of the system software. The performance advantages and file system architecture of the precision architecture are discussed.<>
